It has been a crazy transitional period and yet I feel like I haven’t gotten anywhere. I have written several blogs, mostly myself but one in particular was written entirely by AI. I’m not sure if I will put any of those up but the point is that I have been constantly wanting to write blog posts. It is like my journal, except there is the added aspect of it being “out there”. I do edit myself, but don’t we all form our language to the occasion. I talk to myself enough anyways.
I was going to move the fenced in garden area of the yard and then cover crop it but with all the things that came up it just seemed best to stick with what we had and cover crop that. It is a good section of the middle of the yard. I would guess about 1/4th the size of the back yard, maybe smaller. I have already planted half the area with a cover crop mix with 50% clovers plus a bunch of other stuff, and then the majority is sorghum and cowpea. The other half of the garden I am doing a sort-of lasagna style garden, which is where you put a layer of cardboard or newspaper, then a layer of manure or compost, then another layer of carbon, and so on, until you put mulch at the top and plan into that. That is the idea I have currently anyways, I generally learn how to do things as I do them.
We planted our first tree, a beautiful palo brea. I added a deep watering feature which is basically a hole 3 – 4 feet deep a few feet away from the tree, filled with lava rock/pumice and with a 2″ PVC pipe running down with slots on the side. I water through the tube and get the water beneath the original rootball.
